This website highlights a particular project that was completed by a team of senior civil and electrical engineering students along with the colleges industrial affiliates Kaneka and SunTechnics. The project is to install a 1 kW system using a new thin film technology developed by Kaneka.

The thin film modules are Kaneka's first amorphous type modules to be installed on the eastern coast of the United States. They offer a superior performance under high heat conditions in the summer. These amorphous modules are being installed as a test system, so Kaneka can monitor their performance over the course of one year. To find out more about the thin film technology, visit Kaneka's website.

The test site for the kaneka modules is located just one mile from Rowan’s main campus at the new South Jersey Technology Park in Mullica Hill, NJ. In an effort to create a campus with minimum impact on the environment, a 12.95 kW PV system is installed on the roof of the the Tech park by SunTechnics. The system is designed to provide the maximum annual power output using crystalline-Si technology.

This site proves to be a perfect location for testing the amorphous technology. With a crystalline system already in place, the South Jersey Technology Park offers a unique opportunity to make a comparison between the performance of each PV system under diverse weather conditions.
