Cape May Buoy

Station 44009 is located southeast of Cape May, NJ (38°27'49"N 74°42'07"W). It is owned and maintained by the National Data Buoy Center. The buoy is at sea level with the anemometer height at 5 meters. All data used for this assessment was done with the data available online with up to date stats on the buoy available here.

The northern wind direction is 90°. The strength of the wind represented by the graph can show the direction of the flow of the wind. The frequency of the wind is shown as different colors which correspond to the bar scale on the side of the graph.

The average wind velocity over each hour was taken and then this was compared to the spreadsheets available from the turbine manufacturers website, this can be found in the links given here: Bergey's 1kW, 10 kW and 50 kW Turbine , Northern Power's 100 kW Turbine, and GE's 1.5 MW Turbine . This power yielded was taken over an hour long period, thus yielding the kWh's produced and when these kWh outputs are summed the total power that would be produced be the system is given over that time. When new data is collected the sum of the kWh's on that data is then simply added to the previous total to find the new value of kWh's produced.
