Rowan EWB members learned a lot and had a lot of fun at the 2010 Northeast Regional Workshop, which took place in Pittsburgh in November.

Location Rowan Hall - in the concrete lab if the weather is bad, outside if the weather is nice

April 23, 2011 First Aid Certification Class for Health and Safety Officers
Location Rowan University EMT House
Time 8:00am
Each travel team needs 2 members that are CPR and First Aid certified. If you are one of our members, you have the opportunity to come to this class and get certified for the low cost of $25.

International Development from the Perspective of a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer

Travis recently returned from The Gambia, where he spent two years working as a Peace Corps Volunteer. Topics will include:

- The Gambia
- Issues related to international development
- Engineering for international development
- Experience in the Peace Corps
- His current graduate studies in Sustainable International Development & Coexistence and Conflict.

The La Ceiba project team will give an hour long presentation on our biosand filter project. We are seeking to have the presentation approved for PDH hours.

September 4, 2010 Biosand Filter Construction Practice

August 18, 2010 524 Preliminary Design Report Submitted for La Ceiba Project
The La Ceiba team has submitted their 524 Preliminary Design Report to EWB-USA.
July 12-15, 2010 CAWST Biosand Filter Implementation Workshop
Location CAWST Headquarters, Calgary, Alberta, Canada
A couple of members of the La Ceiba project team will attend the CAWST workshop on implementing biosand filters.
July 10, 2010 Kuntaur Road is Complete
Construction of Kuntaur Road is complete! See the Gambia project page for more details.
June 21, 2010 Biosand Filter Prototype II Complete
The second biosand filter prototype is up and running! This filter closely resembles the filter design that we plan to implement in La Ceiba, El Salvador in January. Project team members will spend the next few months maintaining and testing the prototype.
June 14, 2010 Deliver 10 Bookshelves to Powell Elementary School
Location Powell Elementary School, Camden, NJ
Time 8:30 am - 3:00 pm
The 10 bookshelves that were constructed during the frist phase of the Powell Elementary School project will be delivered to the school.
May 8, 2010 Telecon with EWB-USA La Ceiba Project Manager Joshua Knight
Location Rowan Hall conference room
Time 4:30 pm
We wil be discussing our March assessment trip with our project manager from the EWB-USA national office and deciding what the next step in the project process will be.
**Update** The conference call went very well! We will continue to move forward with our biosand filter design!
May 8, 2010 Annual end of the year EWB barbecue
Location Dr. Mehta's house

Come hang out and eat with current EWB members, faculty members from the college of engineering, and some EWB alumni!
May 7, 2010 EWB T-shirts are here!
We are selling EWB t-shirts for $10. We have sizes YL, S, M, L, and XL. All proceeds help support our projects in El Salvador and The Gambia.
March 18-21 EWB-USA 2010 International Conference in Denver Colorado
A few very committed members of our chapter attend the EWB-USA international conference every year. This year the conference will be held in Denver, Colorado. At conferences students network with other chapters and attend workshops that help us improve the ways we function as a chapter and complete projects.
March 14, 2010 La Ceiba team departs for assessment trip
The La Ceiba team will embark on what they hope will be their final assessment trip. They will be gathering data related to constructing biosand filters and installed a water distribution system. They will also be engaging in a large scale community mapping effort,
January 4, 2010 The Gambia team departs for assessment trip

The NGO that we have the working with in The Gambia, the Horse and Donkey Trust, has hired a contractor to start raising the road. The contractor will be starting work in the near future. Students will be educating community members about how to maintain the road so that it does not fall into disrepair again. Students will also be collecting data on local wells. We hope to improve water supply in the area in the future.
