CROSSROADS: Determining the Authentic Visual Voice

January 18 - March 12, 2010

Opening Reception: January 28th, 2010

Presented in collaboration with The Philadelphia Sculptors, the exhibit features the work of artists Maria Anasazi, Tom Bendtsen, Catherine Martens Betz, Brent Crothers, Ted Prescott and Warren Holzman.

Philadelphia Sculptors asked it members to consider the meaning of the "authentic visual voice" and the responses to that question and the work submitted in support of those responses are the basis for this exhibition.

"The artists selected have been challenged and inspired by the inherent meaning of functional objects and their potential as an artistic medium when manipulated by the artists," notes Mary Salvante, exhibit curator and gallery director at Rowan. "The ‘authenticity' of the work is determined by the choices and decisions made by the artist when presenting the object in a new context. Viewers will be engaged visually and conceptually by the formal characteristics of the work, which in turn are supported by the artist's intent."
