The Print Lab – Color Printing
The Westby Computer Art Lab facility includes a walk up fee based color laser and wide format printing service called the Print Lab. This service is located in Westby Hall room 202. The open hours of this facility vary according to the availability of student workers, so please check the schedule on the door.
Generally, the Print Lab is open:
Monday thru Thursday from 8 am to 10 pm
Friday from 8 am to 3:30 pm
Saturday and Sunday from Noon to 4 pm
Color Printing Procedure: (Please Read)
Each printing job requires a Job Jacket (A form describing your order), which must be left and reviewed with the Print Lab staff. All student print orders require a $10 hold to be place on the student’s Rowan ID card (Boro Bucks). Students can load funds to their Rowan Card (Boro Bucks) either online (Rowan Self-Serve) or at the Bursar’s Office. The fee for printing will be deducted from the hold, and the remaining amount will be credited back to the student’s account. If the print order’s cost exceeds the $10 hold, the Print Lab will charge the amount owed when the student picks up the order.
In order to keep cost low for both the student and the Print Lab, orders will not be processed if:
- The job is not reviewed by a Print Lab staff member.
- The form is not fully completed or is filled out incorrectly.
- A $10 hold is not processed.
- The files are submitted in the wrong size, color space, or file format.
- If the files names and location do not perfectly match what is stated on the form.
Please note, if there is a problem with your job,
we will NOT contact you.
We do not have the means to follow up with you once we attempt to process your order.
All orders will be printed on a first come, first served basis. You will not be able to walk up, open your document and print. Most print jobs are printed within 2 hours; however, as a result of demand and worker availability during certain times of the year, the wait may be much longer. Please don’t expect to always be able to immediately pick up your prints. Files can be sumbitted on a CD, usb flash drive, or uploaded to a student account on a local file server called the Artserver. ( Click here for our Art Server Tutorial )
We highly recommend uploading your files to the Art Server.
We can not be responsible for you USB drive or files.
Files must be saved with all layers flattened, and we only accept the following file formats:
- JPG – High resolution jpg sized to the final document size
(lossy format - each time you save this file it loses quality)
- TIFF – High resolution lossless file format
- PSD – Photoshop (Flatten all layers)
- PDF – Portable Document Format
(If possible, PDF X-4 is the best option)
We do not accept native Word, PowerPoint, or Excel files; however,
you can convert those files to PDF.
Prices and Cost:
The Print Lab makes every effort to keep printing cost low and our order processing method helps us reduce errors and keep costs low. As a cost comparison, our color laser prices are roughly 32% below off-campus prices, and our wide format prices are roughly 52% below off-campus prices. Please come to the Print Lab at Westby Hall room 202 to review prices.
Paper type and size options:
The color laser paper is a bright white 28 lbs. high grade paper made specifically for a color laser. This paper is slightly thicker and much better quality than standard 20 lbs. BW and copier paper. We choose this paper for its low dust content and durability. This is the only paper or media we will use with our color laser printer. Paper sizes are standard US letter (8 1/2″ X 11) and Tabloid (11 X 17).
The wide format printers offer a wide variety of paper types and size options. In order to reduce cost we purchase our paper in rolls and only stock Enhanced Matte, Semi-Matte, Premium Glossy, and Summerset Velvet (Watercolor textured) paper. The sizes vary; however, we can print up to 43″ wide.
