In Conjunction with Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts presents College of Collage Sunday April 17, 2:00 p.m to 6:30 p.m. Camden Campus Imagining the East a recital by Adeline Tomasone and Jon Robert Cart, flutes, and Dean Witten, percussion …drawing on the collage concept of "Orientalism," in which impressions and imagined concepts of the Middle East and Far East are employed by composers to create a new sensibility in French music of the early 20th century. Tomasone, Cart, and Witten will perform works in which the images and sounds of the flute and percussion are of paramount significance in this expression.
3:30 pm Jazz and the Jazz Drum Set A jazz concert by Jim Miller and Friends Jim Miller, jazz drummer and author of A Brief History of Time Keeping examines the collaged evolution of the jazz drum set and its influence on the developing forms of jazz. 5 pm The Minstrel Show a presentation/performance by Lourin Plant, baritone
African American scholar and baritone, Lourin Plant, investigates the pastiche of influences and pressures that contributed to the development of the collage that became the minstrel show, and how Paris at the turn of the century interpreted, assimilated and collaged these influences in their own works of art. These performances are presented through the generous support of the Rowan University Friends of the Arts.
