December, 2011

Dear Rowan Prep families and friends,

There is so much to celebrate during this holiday season! Our community school of music has grown healthily and musically - with our family now numbering at 200+. This includes our private instruction students, our ensembles, our Music Together Classes, our new Glassboro Academy/Rowan Prep program, and, our Rowan Youth Orchestra. As in every family - it truly "takes a village" for things to grow "with light"; for Rowan Prep this musical village consists of our wonderful faculty - which is made up of both Rowan University music faculty, and Rowan Prep faculty, our dedicated and supportive parents, and the administrators here at The College of Fine and Performing Arts. Their combined energy helps our students find their "voice", and allow them to strive for excellence in their creativity.

I applaud our musical celebrations this past semester, including a fabulous concert by our 85+ member Rowan Youth Orchestra, who performed in our Pfleeger Auditorium on December 4, under the guidance and brilliant direction of Maestro Warren Gardner. Our Suzuki String Program had a warm and welcoming program at The Barnes and Noble Store in downtown Glassboro, where parents, and family, and friends were treated to a Holiday "Play-In" by our wonderful Suzuki String students and faculty members, Ms. Lizzie Devereux and Ms. Elizabeth Cary. Our Student Recitals will complete our December programming on Sunday, December 17, 3:00 p.m. in Boyd Recital Hall, here in The Wilson Hall Building. We invite you to this ecletic performance, featuring students of Andrea J. Bianchi, Aaron Klaus, Larisa Soboleva, Lena Ryepkina, Tom Meany, Alexander Timofeev, and Veda Zuponcic!

As we gear up for our Spring Semester, beginning Tuesday, January 3, 2012, we invite you and your friends to join in our music-making here at Rowan Prep! Whether you register for a drum lesson through private instruction, join our Singers' Vocal Performance Ensemble, take your toddler to Music Together Classes, or become a member of our Rowan Youth Orchestra -- we want you to feel welcome and a "part of the excitement" as you walk down Rowan University's musical halls!!! Our goal is to support you as you walk forward on your musical journey!

Please know that my door/email/phone are always open for your questions, comments and thoughts about how to make Rowan Prep even more welcoming. (dimedio@rowan.edu; direct phone: 856-256-4556; consultations during work hours: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, 10:30 - 3:30). Our faculty are sincerely committed to helping you and your children grow musically and personally, and welcome your questions about selecting a program that fits your particular musical needs.

Registration is ongoing throughout the new 2012 Spring Semester. We invite you to visit our website, to find out about our current offerings, as well as the past and present accomplishments of our faculty and students. We also thank you in advance for helping us spread the word to your friends, so that we can include more of our Glassboro and surrounding area families in our musical mission.

Onward!
