- Pre-Matriculated
This is the initial status of those who have initiated the graduate application process online in time to register for a semester's courses—but before they have been formally accepted into their program of choice. These candidates have filled out the graduate application form online (see bold link below), received their Banner ID via email, but have yet to submit every item required to complete their application to The Graduate School OR have yet to received a decision regarding their graduate application. They are eligible to register for up to 9 total credits of graduate coursework (not all in the same semester) while they complete their graduate application (transcripts, letters of recommendation, etc) and await a decision.-

- Reasons for taking courses before your application is complete or you are formally admitted into a program: If the grade(s) received from courses taken at the graduate level are high (4.0), this evidence of ability may be considered by programs when making admission decisions regarding your in-progress application.
- Restrictions: Students should be aware, however, that any courses taken as a "pre-matriculated" student, may not fit into programs that do not require these courses. Courses taken will also not be accepted into programs, if students do not qualify for admission or if the credits are older than 10 years.
- When courses count: Students who have been accepted into a Rowan University Graduate program are upgraded to “matriculated” status. Up to nine credits of applicable graduate level courses, taken prior to receiving an acceptance letter, may be counted toward a Rowan degree. Consult the program advisor for specific details.

- Restrictions: Students should be aware, however, that any courses taken as a "non-matriculated" student, may not fit into programs that do not require these courses. Courses taken will also not be accepted into programs, if students do not qualify for admission or if the credits are older than 10 years.
- When courses count: Students who have been accepted into a Rowan University Graduate program become “matriculated” students. Up to nine credits of graduate level courses, taken prior to receiving an acceptance letter, may be counted toward a Rowan degree. However, depending on the graduate program you choose to study, any course credits you have taken may or may not be able to be applied to your degree program. Consult the program advisor for specific details.
