Welcome ... Political Science Majors Rowan's Political Science majors learn about American politics, international relations, political theories and the governmental systems that have influenced the conditions of human life around the world. A public service internship is a required part of the program. Students are placed in government agencies or legislative offices where they learn problem-solving techniques and gain practical experience. The department regularly invites state representatives and other government officials to talk about their work and meet with students. Active student organizations such as the Pre-Law Society, Political Science Club and Pi Sigma Alpha Honor Society provide additional opportunities to explore the field and learn about career opportunities.
Welcome ... Economics Majors Rowan's Economics majors attracts students whose interest in business extends beyond the specific areas of accounting, finance, management, and marketing. The major exposes them to economic theories and trends in the context of other disciplines such as history, political science, sociology and psychology. The department also offers practical skills-oriented courses, such as Economics of Personal Finance and Risk and Insurance. Students often work with faculty members on their research and sometimes even travel with them to professional conferences. Internships, field experiences, and other hands-on programs extend students' education beyond the boundaries of classroom and campus. Because economics involves the study of many disciplines, students gain a broad-based education that qualifies them to work in many fields including banking, business administration, finance, consulting, social services, stock market and financial services. The Career Journal recently named economics the new hot major! Why is economics important and exciting?
