Description:

This laboratory course considers the biology of plants.  It is a broad survey of plant nutrition, physiology, development, anatomy, morphology, reproduction, evolution and ecology.  An emphasis is placed on the structure and function of plants and the relevance of plants to humanity and the global environment.  Students who complete this course will better understand what plants are, what they do, how they do it, and why we should care.  4 s.h.

How is this course different than Plant Diversity?  Plant Diversity has a narrower scope than Introductory Botany, and specifically targets the patterns, processes and types of plant diversity.  Introductory Botany is a broader survey of all aspects of plant biology.  Although the diversity of plants is considered in Introductory Botany, it is not intensively evaluated as it is in Plant Diversity.  If you are planning on more than one course about plants, it makes sense to take Introductory Botany before any other plant courses (this is a recommendation, not a requirement).
