Darius Kuciauskas, Ph.D. Physical Chemistry My current research is in the area of organic ("third-generation") solar cells. By using designs of nature, such as photosynthesis and self-assembly, we attempt to develop efficient, simple, and inexpensive means to convert solar energy to chemical energy. This research involves preparation of dye and semiconductor nanoparticles and studies of their interactions in various environments. We also prepare solar cells and characterize their efficiency. On a molecular level, organic solar cells are based on intermolecular electron transfer, so we also study these effects. We use various optical techniques, including laser spectroscopy. Earlier, I studied porphyrins for molecular photonics applications, molecular switches for phospholipid bilayers, and molecular wires. See my web page to find out more.
