The Speaker: Cathy F. Yang received her B.S. in Chemistry from Zhejiang University. She then finished her postgraduate studies on biochemical engineering at Zhejiang University of Technology. She then moved to the United States, attending graduate school at Tufts University and received her Ph.D. in bioorganic chemistry in 1993. Following that Dr. Yang took a postdoctoral at Harvard Medical School where she was engaged in anticancer research. In 1995, Dr. Yang joined the faculty of the Chemistry Department of Rowan University and is now a full professor. Ever since she helped the department to develop the biochemistry program. Dr. Yang's research has been focused on molecular recognition through anticancer drug design and DNA drug interactions. Her NIH-funded research on anticancer design is currently targeted toward prostate cancer. Dr. Yang worked at an engineering university in China prior to come to US. Higher education has been her life focus. She is also an amateur piano and tennis player, and is a poetry appreciator. She has two children and resides in Cherry Hill.
The Talk: Dr. Yang joined a team of Rowan Deans and attended an international higher education forum held in Beijing China, in 2004. Attended mainly by presidents and influential higher education scholars of major universities (450), government officials and diplomats from more than 30 countries, this particular conference focused on: "International Exchange and Cooperation for Higher Education in the New Age-Present, Policy and Perspective". China is perhaps the world's most complex, over-hyped, and under-analyzed market for transnational higher education. Issues on strengthening globalization of university development were extensively discussed at the conference. The group also visited four universities in four cities including Beijing representing different types of educational goals ranging from specialized to comprehensive structures. The schools certainly provide different dimensions and perspectives for American educators and general public on how Chinese universities are shaped to meet the educational rigor and new challenges. Finally, some cultural exploration was done through sightseeing.
Second speaker: I have been with Kelly Scientific Resources for nearly 3 years, as a Recruiter in the Delaware office, an On-site Manager for one of our Philadelphia customers, and now as the Branch Managing Recruiter for the Delaware office. Prior to Kelly, I was a Forensic Chemist at the City of Philadelphia Police Department and an Analytical Chemist at a Petroleum Additives producer. I received my BS in Chemistry and MBA with a concentration in Marketing, both from the University of Delaware.
