The Speaker is Associate Director – New Leads Chemistry: Lead Synthesis Group; Compound Management Site Manager (NJ) at Bristol-Myers Squibb Pharmaceutical Research Institute in Princeton where he leads a staff of sixteen. His education includes a B.S. (magna cum laude) in chemistry – Clemson University, Clemson, South Carolina where he did senior undergraduate research with Professor Albert R. Pinder. He holds a M.S. in organic chemistry from Stanford University with a thesis entitled Isolation and Analysis of Marine Sterols and 9,11-Secosterols working with Professor Carl Djerassi. His Ph.D. is in synthetic organic chemistry from Stanford University where he worked with Professor Paul A. Wender and produced a thesis entitled Triazole Photochemistry: Methodology for the Synthesis of Indoles and Pyrroles. Syntheses of 7-Methoxymitosene and NSC 278214.
Before coming to Bristol Myers in 1998 he worked at Pfizer Global Research and Development. He has many publications and patents in pharmaceutical synthesis.

Abstract: The dynamic environment of exploratory and early phase drug discovery research across the pharmaceutical industry has necessitated re-evaluations of the established paradigms at the Bristol-Myers Squibb Pharmaceutical Research Institute. Efforts to capitalize on concurrent advances in genomics, high capacity combinatorial chemistry, and high-throughput screening have resulted in new strategic approaches to drug discovery. In the areas of parallel synthesis and combinatorial chemistry, New Leads Chemistry has developed a fully integrated suite of technologies to address the current and anticipated needs for the Institute. An overview of gene family target class library design, development, and production at Bristol-Myers Squibb will be presented including recent successful applications of the state-of-the-art IRORI NanoKan™ Combinatorial Chemistry System.
