The speaker:
Charlie Taylor is currently a Senior Technical Service representative
for DuPont. He received a BS in Chemistry from SUNY@Albany, and
PhD from Penn State. Since that time, he's held a number of positions
for the DuPont Company; some in technical, some in management,
and some in human resources. In the technical realm, work includes
the study of tertiary oil recovery, hydrogen peroxide manufacture,
and surface modification with organofluorine compounds.
The talk:
A wealth of information exists for solutions of fluorinated
surfactants at equilibrium in deionized water. No one uses them
that way. Fluorinated surfactants are used in tandem with hydrocarbon
surfactants, under dynamic conditions, in the presence of resin
systems, dispersed solids, and across a wide pH range. The talk
will discuss surface modification strategies with organofluorine
compounds. The focus will be on mixed surfactant systems. Understanding
the aggregation and adsorption behavior of different surfactant
types can help in the formulation
of materials that are more effective. Getting the most per ingredient
dollar, and tailoring formulations to the surfaces that they will
be used on are downstream benefits.
