Rowan University's Department of Computer Science provides the highest quality instruction in the theory and practice of computational science. The department is committed to creating a student-centered learning environment that promotes close student-faculty relationships and enhances intellectual development.

Our nationally accredited BS program challenges budding computer scientists and innovators. The department also seeks to meet the educational needs of the community at large through general education courses, a minor in Computer Science, and other programs. The Computer Science faculty is committed to contributing to the expansion of knowledge in the Computer Science discipline through teaching, research, and service.

Rowan University's Computer Science major is accredited by the national Computing Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.

The department consists of thirteen highly qualified faculty members and two professional staff members for managing the computer laboratories. We offer a four-year Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science as well as a minor in Computer Science. Computer science students master current technology and develop the versatility needed to adapt in this fast evolving field. Recent graduates have found exciting careers in industry, government and education. The program also prepares students for graduate study in Computer Science and related fields. Specializations are available in the areas of software engineering, networking and operating systems, information technology, programming languages and compilers, and artificial intelligence. Many students complete an internship in the industry.

The Computer Science department hosts the Rowan chapter of Upsilon Pi Epsilon, 2008 UPE Induction Ceremony
the international honor society for the computing and information disciplines, as well as the Rowan student chapter of the ACM , the international computing society. Further, many computer science students take an active role in faculty research projects. Results of the research are often presented at Rowan's Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) student research symposium. The Computer Science department organizes the annual Rowan University Programming Contest for area high school students.
