Mainland Regional students take top honors in Rowan University's 25th annual H.S. programming contest Derick Palos and Jordan Reedie of Mainland Regional High School in Linwood, NJ, took first prize in the 25th annual Programming Contest held by the Computer Science Department at Rowan University on April 8. Second prize went to Noah Grossman and Eric Nachtigall, also of Mainland Regional High School. Winners took home prizes that included netbook computers, video cameras, programmable calculators, and many books on computer-related topics. Sponsors CDW-G, Mission Solutions Engineering, Office Max, Pine Hill Printing, Pearson Publishing, Staples, Texas Instruments, and the Rowan University Bookstore donated these and other prizes. Student competitors had to program a computer to perform both transposition and substitution ciphers. While the students were working, their teacher-coaches were given a presentation on software tools for teaching developed at Rowan University. Judges included faculty and alumni from Rowan's Computer Science Department.
