Textbook Information for Introductory Physics Courses
All of our introductory courses make use of an online homework system and access to this is the only mandatory item needed for all courses. The system is tied to a specific text for the "end of chapter" problems, as noted below. Since most physics texts of each type are more-or-less the same as far as readability, you have several options on just what you want to purchase for your specific course—all of which are noted below. In general, the options are: buy the book with online access and ebook, buy just the online access with ebook, or just by the access and pick up some other text that you can find that you like the style of. If you do not buy a physical text, but rely only on the online ebook, Note that access to the text will expire with access to the homework system, i.e. once your class sequence is finished. If you purchase some other text, just about any introductory physics text published in the past 5 or so years will do; typically this means any of the last three editions of a particular text. In general a "University" text means it uses calculus and a "College" text means it is algebra-based. Some standard authors for calculus based courses are Halliday, Resnick, & Walker; Young & Freedman; Tipler & Mosca; Serway & Jewett. Some standard authors for algebra-based courses are Cutnell & Johnson; Serway & Faughn; Giordano; Knight, Jones, & Field; Urone. Now, scroll down to the title of your specific course to find the specific options available to you: • Intro Mechanics, Intro Thermo/Fluids/Waves/Optics, and Intro E&M Choice 1: Stand-alone Mastering Physics Access (for University Physics with Modern Physics 13e by Young & Freedman) with or without the online ebook access ISBN 9780321528308 (without ebook; the "required text" at bookstore) ISBN 9780321741257 (with ebook) Note that if you buy it online at the above link, you will be asked to choose the textbook being used (Young & Freedman, 13e) and then you have the choice of buying the ebook access or not.
