B.A., Economics,Washington and Lee University; M.A., Economics, George Mason University; M.A., Political Science, George Washington University; M.A. and Ph.D., Politics, Princeton University.

Dr. Butler is the author of a book on the presidential nomination process entitled: Claiming the Mantle, published by Westview. He has been featured on several cable television programs discussing issues of presidential politics.

Teaching Fields: American Government, Legislative Process (Congress), Political Parties and Interest Groups, The American Presidency, Campaigns and Elections; and Political Science Research Methods.
