Assistant Director, Center for Behavior Analysis, Research and Service

Professor, Department of Psychology

Michelle Ennis Soreth is an Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department, and is the current Coordinator of the Undergraduate Specialization in Behavioral Services for Children and their Families at Rowan. Dr. Soreth completed her B.A. in Psychology at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida under the mentorship of Dr. Maria R. Ruiz, and earned her Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology with a Specialization in Behavior Analysis at Temple University in Philadelphia under the direction of Dr. Philip N. Hineline.

Her academic interests include basic behavioral phenomena, functional assessment of problem behavior, and the philosophy of behavior analytic theory. Her basic research primarily takes place in her Pigeon Learning Lab at Rowan, where she and her students examine basic behavior-environment relations. She is particularly interested in the relations involving choice behavior, particularly preference for situations with delayed or probabilistic outcomes (e.g., gambling, drug abuse, “risk-taking,” etc.). Outside of the basic laboratory, Dr. Soreth is involved with several of the local school districts where she conducts functional assessments and designs behavior support plans for children and adolescents with behavioral and emotional disorders.

She has research interests in and a strong commitment to the wide scale delivery of effective behavior analytic services and the improvement of functional assessment techniques. Finally, her interests in the philosophical and conceptual issues in behavior analytic theory are far-reaching including the philosophy of science, behavior analytic theory’s relation to other systems of psychology, and issues of social justice inherent in the theory. Her teaching interests include courses in Learning & Behavior, Research Methods, Functional Assessment, and History and Systems of Psychology.
