Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (CAGS)
in ABA
The Behavior Analyst Certification Board, Inc. has approved the following course sequence as meeting the coursework requirements for eligibility to take the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) Examination for students entering the program prior to Fall 2011. Applicants will have to meet additional requirements to be eligible to be certified as BCBA. Click here for detailed descriptions of the courses.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
PSY 02.500 Basic Principles of Behavior 3 s.h.
Prerequisite: Matriculation in CAGS of ABA
This course is a graduate course in the basic principles of behavior. Course content includes the historical basis of behavior analysis, the distinction between respondent/classical and operant conditioning, and the basic principles, processes, and concepts of behavior analysis.
PSY 02.510 Research Methods in Behavior Analysis 3 s.h.
Prerequisite: Matriculation in CAGS in ABA
This course provides students with the knowledge and skills to choose and implement an appropriate experimental design to evaluate the success of behavioral interventions.
PSY 02.610 Applied Behavior Analysis 3. s.h.
Prerequisite: PSY 02.500
This course is a graduate course in applied behavior analysis. Course content includes the basis of applied behavior analysis, and the application and implementation of various techniques from operant conditioning to change and maintenance of human behavior.
PSY 02.620 Behavioral Assessment and Functional Analysis 3 s.h.
Prerequisite: PSY 02.510 or Matriculation in the School Psychology Masters Program
This course teaches students how to conduct a comprehensive assessment for behavior problems, to identify with the client, the appropriate goals and objectives for intervention, to conduct the appropriate assessment techniques, and to select the appropriate measurement procedures to evaluate outcomes.
PSY 01.660 Practicum in Applied Behavior Analysis 3 s.h.
Prerequisite: Matriculation in CAGS in ABA and permission of instructor
In this course students are placed in a community agency to apply their knowledge and skills in applied behavior analysis. Students will be required to meet weekly with the course instructor.
PSY 02.670 Ethics in ABA
3 s.h.
Prerequisite: PSY 02.610 (Applied Behavior Analysis) and PSY 02.620 (Behavioral Assessment & Functional Analysis)
This graduate level course is required for students in the Master's of Art program in Applied Behavior Analysis. The purpose of this course is to ensure that students know and are able to apply the Behavior Analyst Certification Board®'s (BACB) Guidelines for Responsible Conduct for Behavior Analysts. In addition, students will be taught the BACB Professional Disciplinary and Ethical Standards.
* There is an undergraduate level course with this same name. Students wishing to pursue certification as a BCBA must take the graduate level course.
** The Behavior Analyst Certification Board, Inc. requires 1500 hours of supervised hours. The Practicum course is designed to be provided in coordination with settings that employ the appropriately credentialed BCBA field supervisor. The student will not be able to complete all required supervised hours as a function of this course alone.
