Degree Requirements Conferring a B.A. degree, the Department of History seeks to provide students with the opportunity to acquire an in-depth and in breadth knowledge of the course of history and an understanding of the historical process. Students majoring in history have the opportunity to develop particular specializations within the liberal arts, and to prepare for a variety of careers in teaching, public service, and private enterprise. History students should develop the intellectual capacity for discerning patterns of continuity and change. Through research, writing, and oral presentations, students should develop their capacity to evaluate historical writing as well as primary source materials critically. The ability to analyze and synthesize information is a basic intellectual skill essential to all students' professional and vocational goals. |
