Cooper Medical School of Rowan University is committed to providing an academic and work environment that respects the contributions, talent, and diverse experiences of all of our students, faculty, and staff. Our core values include a commitment to diversity, collaboration, and mutual respect. We embrace the philosophy that excellence in medical education, research, and clinical practice is best achieved through promoting diversity in its broadest definition and maintaining an academic and work environment free of discrimination. We pledge to build and sustain a learning community where diversity is celebrated, and to foster access to medical education to learners from all segments of society. We consider inclusivity to be a responsibility of everyone in our learning environment.
One of CMSRU’s goals is to increase the number of students and faculty members from those groups underrepresented in medicine, as well as women faculty in positions of leadership and in the higher academic ranks, and to create an academic environment that is welcoming and respectful of diversity of gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, cultural background, and socioeconomic group.
The P.U.L.S.E. (Premedical Urban Leaders Summer Enrichment) Program is one way in which CMSRU is working to improve the diversity of the physician/healthcare workforce. The urban health-focused program provides academic, clinical, research, and service learning opportunities to individuals traditionally underrepresented in medicine. Applications for the 2012 six-week program are now closed. Applications will be accepted for the 2013 summer program after January 1, 2013.
