The deadline for all materials to be complete and verified (including MCAT scores and letters of recommendation) is August 1. Early Decision applicants must choose the “Early Decision” option in AMCAS and agree to the terms. We do not have differing requirements for Early Decision applicants, but the match to our mission is exceptionally important for these candidates. Completed applications will be reviewed immediately and all interview offers for Early Decision will be made by August 8, 2014. Early Decision applicants not invited to interview at this time will be notified that their applications will be moved to the regular AMCAS pool. They are free to apply to other schools at that time. There is a single interview date for the ED group during the last week of August, most likely the 28th or 29th. The decisions will be made the following week, and candidates will be informed of the admissions decision: either acceptance or deferment to the regular application cycle. Applicants whose applications are deferred for later consideration will have their applications released to other medical schools at that time. We feel that this rapid pace is the most fair for ED candidates, since it allows them to enter the regular AMCAS application cycle by the first week of September.
Please provide our office with written or email notification of your intention to apply Early Decision. This notification should include a statement that you agree to apply to no other medical school until CMSRU acts on your application and that you will accept an offer of admission should one be extended.
All letters of recommendation should be submitted through AMCAS Letters. CMSRU will not accept letters submitted outside of this system. CMSRU prefers, when possible, to receive a letter authored by a pre-health committee or advisor intended to represent your institution’s evaluation. This letter may include additional letters of support. If there is no pre-health committee or advisor at your school, you may submit individual letters of evaluation and recommendation through AMCAS Letters. We require a minimum of three letters, and we do not impose a maximum number. At least two of the letters must be from academic faculty, and applicants should always request letters from professors or supervisors who know them well.
We do not send secondary applications to every applicant. Applications are screened on a rolling basis once they have been verified and marked complete through AMCAS. The verification process can be lengthy, and we do not forward secondary applications to anyone before we view the AMCAS documents. Selected AMCAS applicants will be contacted with an invitation to complete our secondary application electronically. We will accept no paper applications. The secondary application contains questions relating to our institutional mission, requiring short written responses, as well as entry of some biographical data. Applicants will be able to access their electronic file at all times to view the application status and to see which (if any) materials are missing from the file. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that applications are complete and submitted. CMSRU will not extend deadlines for applications for any reason. All completed applications will be screened, and selected applicants will be invited to schedule an interview.
The fee for our secondary application is $75, payable at the time of submission. Applicants who qualify for the Fee Assistance Program (FAP) through AMCAS will be eligible for a fee waiver.
Invited applicants will be able to schedule their own interview days online. They will be contacted via email to select a date. The interview day is described here, and includes traditional formats combined with more interactive assessment of each candidate’s fit with our mission. Travel tips and hotel links will be sent with interview instructions.
Our admissions offers will occur on a rolling basis. In most cases, offers will be made within three weeks of a candidate’s interview dates. Initial offers will be made via email, with official offers following via US mail.
