Nikon FE2 Reference Material

From: Christian Martel <76750.331@compuserve.com>

These specifications come from a FE2 user guide and from an incredibly satisfied FE2 user...
Shutter: Electronically controlled vertical-travel, metal focal plane shutter with titanium curtains
Shutter speeds: Stepless speeds from 8 to 1/4000 sec. on A (Auto) mode; 16 speeds quartz-controlled from 8 to 1/4000 sec. on manual; mechanically controlled, 1/250 sec. at M250 setting and long exposure at B setting
Viewfinder: Fixed eyelevel pentaprism type; 0.86X magnification with 50mm lens set at infinity; 93 % frame coverage
Viewfinder display: Shutter speed, aperture f-number (ADR), exposure compensa- tion mark (a red led), meter needle, shutter speed needle (these two needles are on the left side of the finder, the meter will stay on for approx. 16 sec after depressing the shutter release half way)
Focusing screen: K2 (standard), B2 and E2 available.
Self-timer: Quartz-timed approx. 10 sec. delayed exposure; setting "cancellable" (this is the "mirror lock-up" !)
Memory lock: Exposure lock via the self-timer lever (push toward the body)
Multiple exposure: provided via lever near the shutter knob (the counter does not advance, you must pull the lever each time because it return in "normal mode" after the shot, I saw some critics about this lever saying that you must pull the lever while cranking the film advance lever all the way but that is not true...it works like a charm)
Depth-of-field preview: provided via lever
Flash synchro: 1/250 sec. on A and M250, will fire at max 1/250 on manual with shutter speed from 1/500 to 1/4000 (with dedicated flash), TTL control of flash exposure via one SPD (usable film speed in that case is ASA/ISO 25 to 400),ready-light inside the viewfinder (this red led is also blinking for insuficient flash output ), sync terminal also provided.
Exposure metering: usual Nikon center-weighted 60/40 via 2 SPD.
Metering range: EV 1 to EV 18 at ASA/ISO 100 with f/1.4 lens
Exposure compensation dial: +/- 2 EV in one-third increments
Film speed range: ASA/ISO 12 to 4000
Film winding: 135 deg. winding angle and 30 deg. standoff angle (when the lever is close to the body, the shutter button is locked), optional MD-12 motor drive unit (I used to have this, but it made the FE2 so damn heavy it wasn't fun to use.)
Camera back: removable (Data Back MF-16)
Power: one CR-1/3N (3V) lithium, or two 1.55V SR-44 silver-oxide, or two 1.5V LR-44 alkaline-manganese (the 3V lithium last for ever)
Body finish: Chrome and black (that's true, the last one is very rare)
Weight (body only): Approx. 550g
