Definition of "Provost"

Imagine, two dictionary definitions and neither even comes close. At Rowan University, the office of the Provost is, in fact, headed by a high-ranking administrative officer who's concerned with curriculum, faculty appointments, etc. But it's so much more. As the University's Chief Academic Officer, Rowan's Provost and his staff maintain the highest academic standards for all undergraduate and graduate programs.

In addition, the Provost oversees the Campbell Library as well as Rowan University's Camden Campus. The office also sets and maintains standards for University-wide information technology and telecommunications through the Associate Provost of Information Resources, Rowan's Chief Technology Officer.

Further, the Provost works on behalf of the University regarding its recruitment, appointment, tenure and promotion of academic personnel. The Provost and his staff also provide oversight and leadership to the Academic Affairs Division regarding the University's mission and goals. A summary of the mission and goals, the Action Plans & Strategies, outlines current key activities aimed at fulfilling the University's Five-Year Plan.
