Commencement 2008
Family Info Since our first Commencement ceremony in 1924, thousands of graduates, their families and friends have gathered to celebrate the achievements of our academic community. Our Commencement ceremony for all graduate-level programs will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2008, beginning at 4:30 p.m. at John Page Field, our athletic stadium at the corner of Carpenter Street and Bowe Boulevard in Glassboro. Family and Guest Parking Parking for guests of students is available in Lots M-1, B and A. Handicapped parking will be available in Lots C and D for the Graduate Commencement ceremony. Guests with special needs may call the Academic Success Center at (856) 256-4260 to request a special permit. Please visit here for a campus map of the parking lots. Tickets Tickets are not necessary for the outdoor ceremony at the stadium. However, in case of inclement weather, tickets are required for admission to Esbjornson Gymnasium. Each degree candidate will be issued four tickets for his/her ceremony once the Office of University Events receives the completed attendance confirmation card. Tickets will be mailed in late April to the address provided on the card. For the hearing impaired Sign language interpreters are available during the Graduate Commencement ceremony. Commemorative photographs Professional photographers from Chappell Studio will photograph all graduates receiving their diplomas during the ceremony. Additionally, they will have a Portrait station near the John Page Football Field. Chappell will send information directly to graduates about the purchase of photos. Please direct photography questions to Chappell Studio at (800) 247-3435. Flowers Flowers may be purchased by the bouquet from the Senior Honor Society at John Page Field. Graduation announcements The Bookstore offers personalized graduation announcements. Samples are on display. Beginning April 4, announcements may be picked up at the bookstore 48 hours after ordering. Announcements may be shipped to a home address for a fee. Diploma frames, class rings, gifts The Bookstore offers a variety of Commencement-related products with samples on display. Bookstore hours for Commencement The store will be open 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. on May 15 and 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. on May 16. Dining options On campus and within a few moments’ drive, visitors will find many dining options.
Inclement weather procedures In the event of inclement weather (thunderstorms, heavy rain, etc.), the Graduate Commencement ceremony will be held in Esbjornson Gymnasium at 4:30 p.m. Changes in the ceremony location because of inclement weather will be announced starting at noon on May 15 on WGLS-FM 89.7 and KYW-AM 1060. This information will also be available by phone (856) 256-4000, and at the University Web site here. Additional information Bottled water, snacks, disposable cameras, film and balloons are available at a kiosk within the stadium and in the Bookstore. Baby strollers cannot be left in the aisles. There are no designated baby changing facilities on campus. Please plan accordingly. Balloon bouquets are not permitted in the seating areas during the ceremony. They will block the view of other guests. Departure from the parking lots after the ceremony may take up to 20 or 30 minutes.
