Secondary Ceremonies

College of Business

Ceremony location: Esby Gym

Approximate start time: 12 p.m.

Approximate end time: 1 p.m.

Ticket information: Participants will receive four (4) tickets for the College of Business secondary ceremony. No extra tickets are available.

Line up and processional: Students will report to Esby Gym immediately following the main ceremony and sit according to major:

Accounting
Entrepreneurship
Finance
Human Resource Management
Management
Management Information Systems
Marketing
Business Administration with a specialization in:

Accounting
Entrepreneurship

Honor students will sit in the assigned seats to the left of the stage. When entering Esby Gym, each student will receive a 3x5 index card and a pencil. Write your name on the card—phonetically, if it is difficult to pronounce. As each major is called, graduates will stand, walk to the stage and give their name card to Margaret Van Brunt, who will announce each name. Graduates will proceed across the stage and receive a diploma cover from the department chairperson. A photographer from Chappell Studio will photograph each graduate receiving their diploma. The photographer will determine your name and placement in line by collecting the name cards at the end of the ceremony and Chappell will send information directly to graduates about the purchase of photos. You will then return to your seat.

Marshals are on hand to direct the process from beginning to end.

Rain ceremony: In the event of a severe rainstorm, the College of Business Commencement ceremony will move indoors to the Student Recreation Center starting at 2 p.m. Students should arrive no later than 1:30 p.m. to line up. Tickets are required for this ceremony. Each Commencement participant will receive four (4) tickets. No extra tickets are available.

The Dean will explain the rain procedure schedule at the beginning of the Commencement ceremony.

College of Communication

Ceremony location: Student Recreation Center

Approximate start time: 11:45 a.m.

Approximate end time: 1:45 p.m.

Ticket information: Participants will receive four (4) tickets for the College of Communication secondary ceremony. No extra tickets are available.

Line up and processional: Students will report to the first floor Exercise Room in the Student Recreation Center immediately following the main ceremony. Please line up by major.

When lining up to receive your diploma, each student will receive a 3x5 index card and a pencil. Rain ceremony: In the event of a severe rainstorm, the College of Communication Commencement ceremony will move indoors to the Student Recreation Center starting at 10:30 a.m. Students should arrive at the Student Recreation Center first floor Exercise Room no later than 10 a.m. to line up. Tickets are required for this ceremony. Each Commencement participant will receive four (4) tickets. No extra tickets are available.

The Dean will explain the rain procedure schedule at the beginning of the Commencement ceremony.

College of Education

Ceremony location: John Page Stadium

Approximate start time: 12 p.m.

Approximate end time: 1:30 p.m.

Ticket information: The College of Education secondary ceremony does not require tickets. Tickets are required if inclement weather forces the ceremony to move inside.

Line up and processional: Students will report to the football field track immediately following the main ceremony. Please line up according to major. Signs will be posted and marshals will be in place to help you locate your designated area.

When lining up to receive your diploma, each student will receive a 3x5 index card and a pencil. Write your name on the card—phonetically, if it is difficult to pronounce—and it will be collected as you walk up the steps to the stage area. The announcer will read your name as you proceed across the stage and shake hands with the Dean. A photographer from Chappell Studio will photograph each graduate receiving their diploma. Tickets are required for this ceremony. Each Commencement participant will receive four (4) tickets. No extra tickets are available.

College of Engineering

Ceremony location: Rowan Green

Approximate start time: 12 p.m.

Approximate end time: 1 p.m.

Ticket information: The College of Engineering secondary ceremony does not require tickets, regardless of venue (indoor or outdoor).

Line up and processional: Students will report to the Rowan Hall Atrium immediately following the main ceremony. Please line up according to major. As you line up with your discipline, staff will hand you the 3x5 index card that you were previously asked to print your name on and return to the program secretary.

Following the Dean’s welcome speech and student speaker’s address, graduates will be called by discipline to the platform to receive their diplomas. As you proceed to the platform, you will hand the index card to the reader. The reader will announce your name as you cross the stage to shake hands with the Dean and the platform guests. A photographer from Chappell Studio will photograph each graduate receiving their diploma. The photographer will determine your name and placement in line by collecting the name cards at the end of the ceremony and Chappell will send information directly to graduates about the purchase of photos. You will then return to your seat.

College of Fine & Performing Arts

Ceremony location: Pfleeger Concert Hall, Wilson Hall

Approximate start time: 12 p.m.

Approximate end time: 1:30 p.m.

Ticket information: Participants will receive four (4) tickets for the College of Fine & Performing Arts secondary ceremony. No extra tickets are available.

Line up and processional: Students will report to Room 153 in Wilson Hall immediately following the main ceremony. Please line up according to major.

At the line up, each student will receive an index card with the student’s name and major printed on the card.  The card will be collected during the ceremony as you walk up the steps to the stage area to receive your diploma. The announcer will read your name as you proceed across the stage and shake hands with the Dean. A photographer from Chappell Studio will photograph each graduate receiving their diploma. The photographer will determine your name and placement in line by collecting the name cards at the end of the ceremony and Chappell will send information directly to graduates about the purchase of photos. You will then return to your seat.
