Leonard Pitts, Jr.
Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Leonard Pitts, Jr., whose syndicated column in the Miami Herald is read by millions of newspaper readers across the country twice each week, will address Rowan University’s Class of 2008. Pitts, who joined the Miami Herald in 1991, has penned his column, which offers commentaries on pop culture, social issues and family life, since 1994. In 2004, he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for commentary. He also was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 1992. Pitts has received awards from a host of groups, including the Society of Professional Journalists, the National Association of Black Journalists and the Simon Wiesenthal Center. His book, Becoming Dad: Black Men and the Journey to Fatherhood, was released in 1999.
