Double Take: The Works of Seward Johnson on the Rowan University Campus
August 30 - November 28, 2010
Double Take: The Works of Seward Johnson is a public art exhibition which brings 10 life-sized bronze sculptures from Johnson’s “Man on the Street” collection to the Rowan University campus this fall. In cooperation with Mr. Johnson, the works are on loan through a generous agreement from The Sculpture Foundation, a private foundation which collaborates with organizations to site artwork in public spaces. By capturing human gesture in bronze, Seward Johnson creates a sculptural experience that everyone can enjoy. His work celebrates mini-heroics, drawing attention with lifescale bronze people reclaiming their humanness. Placed in high pedestrian and well trafficked areas throughout campus, this 90-day exhibition will transform Rowan’s landscape. You may just find yourself doing a Double Take.
“What I’m trying to do is draw attention to the simple pleasures, to show how much fun life is. That’s why there are so many humorous details in my work.” - Seward Johnson
