Family Weekend gives parents, siblings and other family members the perfect opportunity to enjoy Rowan’s campus, explore life inside the classroom, partake in some of our activities, meet other Rowan families, and spend time with your student. Some of the events listed below require a fee and are limited in terms of seating availability, so we urge you to pre-register when possible.

FoCaL will be hosting a Multimedia Sale in Campbell Library, Friday-Sunday, Nov.13-15, 2009. Stop by and browse the collection of used books, magazines, CD's, LP's, videos,DVD's, and sheet music. There is something for everyone. Proceeds benefit FoCaL's projects. FoCaL’s past projects include purchasing a handicap accessible computer desk, shelving for the lease book collection, student quick access email bars, and a text reader for the visually impaired. FoCaL sponsors an annual Pajama Storytime for children of the Rowan Community. FoCal awards The Charles and Nancy Boltz Excellence in School Librarianship annually. Travel south to the home of Rocky Balboa and sample the Italian flavor of assorted pizzas, baked ziti, meatballs, and Chicken Parmesan. Celebrate the Olympic spirit with a culinary trip to Chinatown. Feast on General Tso’s Chicken, shrimp fried rice, vegetable egg rolls, and pork potstickers. End your journey at the heart of old South Street. Grab plenty of napkins and enjoy hearty beef and chicken cheese steaks, roast pork with provolone and broccoli rabe. If you have any room left for dessert, partake in the water ice and cannolis.

This roundtable discussion will provide an overview of the steps necessary for your sons and daughters to be competitive in their post-Rowan pursuits. Materials provided. No experience necessary. Space is limited to 20 people and you must register at the Chamberlain Student Center. Chojiro, the founder of the Raku dynasty, first developed the technique of Raku ware in Japan during 16th century to produce tea bowls for the tea ceremony.

In accordance with National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, Rowan University’s Office of Service Learning, Volunteerism & Community Engagement is organizing a Family Weekend donation drive project to serve the Food Bank of South Jersey and the AIDS Coalition of Southern New Jersey. With the help of generous donors such as your family, we can supply food to the 87,000 people that are struggling each day to feed themselves and their families. Suggested non-perishable donations for the Thanksgiving Food Basket include:

Boxes/Bags of stuffing, soup, gravy, instant potatoes or sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, canned vegetables, canned fruit, cake/brownie mix, pie filling, pasta, rice, or other donation. Frozen turkeys will also be accepted, but storage space is limited. Donations of gift cards or “turkey vouchers” are preferred and encouraged.

In the celebration of Thanksgiving, help us eliminate hunger and malnutrition in South Jersey and give to all those in need.  Please bring your generous family donation to our designated table at Family Weekend.

Elaine Erne Exhibit
Rowan University Art Gallery, Westby Ha11

Erne is a Philadelphia based artist who creates large scale graphite drawings as well as lithographic prints. Her most recent series is titled "The Lives and Traumas of Stuffed Animals." The series features imagery that serves as an allegory for children in abusive situations. The drawings are commanding in their size and are labor intensive applications. The average time it takes to complete the layers of graphite is between 6 - 9 months. Erne's works have been widely exhibited in Philadelphia, Baltimore and New York.
