Homecoming & Family Weekend 2011: Passport to the Future


Wednesday, October 19th

Float and/or Banner Application
Show off your Prof Pride with the annual Homecoming and Family Weekend Banner competition on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 from 5pm – 9pm on the Student Center Back Patio.  The spirit of Homecoming Week is displayed in the banner created by a group of students or an individual.  The banners will be hung in the Student Center Pit during the week to promote Homecoming, student organizations, and campus pride.  All participants must bring their banners to the Pep Rally on Friday, October 21 and walk in the Homecoming Parade on Saturday, October 22.

Wear your pride on your sleeve and decorate a free t-shirt for homecoming. Stop by the Student Center main hall on Thursday October 20th from 11am-2pm to decorate and enter your free shirt. Enter your shirt that best depicts homecoming’s theme “Passport to the Future” and get a chance to win great prizes from the bookstore to help you sport your spirit all through the year. 7 p.m. - Women's Volleyball "Dig Pink" - Esby Gym
“Dig Pink” is an event hosted by high school and college volleyball teams around the country in a joint effort to promote Breast Cancer Awareness during the month of October. During the match, the Rowan women’s volleyball team will be wearing pink uniforms to show their support for breast cancer awareness. Fans are asked to wear pink to show their support as well. Donations will be collected the night of the match to benefit the “Side Out Foundation".


9 p.m. - Lip Sync Competition - SC Pit
Rowan's annual Lip Sync Competition is open to all current Rowan students. Students lip sync on stage to their favorite song! This multi-media exhibition will include works that explore a synergistically enhanced aesthetic created through the use of repetitive action and/or materials. The exhibition will evoke questions with the viewer concerning consciousness, impulse, patterning, repetition, obsession, and compulsion.

Join with fellow Profs to clean and beautify your campus community. Each semester, volunteers spread out across campus in a single-hour blitz to make us look our most beautiful. Over a ton of trash is picked up, and hundreds of flowers & trees have been planted. Once again this year, the Fall Clean & Green project coincides with Homecoming Week in preparation for all the weekend’s festivities. All students or student groups that are interested in participating can contact the Service-Learning office at volunteer@rowan.edu or simply show up to the Student Center Back Patio at the start of the event. The Service-Learning office will once again be collaborating with the Athletics department to support the Cans Across The Conference food drive competition. Non-perishable food items will be collected all week through the Service-Learning office in the Student Center, and a collection table will be set-up at the Homecoming Picnic on Saturday as well. The collection table at the picnic will accept non-perishable food items as well as monetary donations. The Service-Learning office will also be sponsoring a craft project for younger siblings/family. After donating to the drive, feel free to stick around to create a personalized Thanksgiving holiday card to be contributed to the food baskets being distributed throughout the season. Support the food drive, support the Athletics teams in their competition with other conference schools, and support South Jersey families in need. Go Profs!

The show provides a groundbreaking, scientifically accurate perspective on black holes and presents the latest compelling evidence that black holes are real. Narrated by Liam Neeson, Black Holes brings viewers along on a thrilling ride to the inside of a supermassive black hole. The visuals are stunning and are powered by a Black Hole Simulator developed by University of Colorado astrophysics professor Dr. Andrew Hamilton.

Enjoy a 1.2 mile walk around campus at your own pace (about 25 minutes at most). Using a map and clearly marked directions, you will encounter 5 stations of small tokens/giveaways along the way. Upon returning to the Rec Center you will be dealt one blackjack hand for a chance to win prizes. This prize is always a campus favorite!! Note: there is no start time, come anytime between 11:00 am – 1:30pm. Free event.
