International Student Graduate Applications

Thank you for your inquirty about Rowan University's graduate programs. Though our international student population is small (approximately 70 undergraduate and graduate students), we have learned through experience that international applicants should be aware of a number of important considerations regarding The Graduate School's programs and it's admissions process.

Please read the following general considerations and requirements before requesting or completing Rowan's International Graduate Admission Application. In addition, be aware that each graduate program has it's own program requirements as well. Those requirements are detailed in the application for admission.

Important Information About Applying to The Graduate School at Rowan University
All international students must maintain full-time enrollment in order to remain in status with the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service. Rowan University is a state educational institution and, therefore, must abide by state and federal regulations. Full-time enrollment in The Graduate School for either fall or spring semester is a minimum of nine (9) credit hours per semester for courses applicable to the degree.

  • Rowan University offers a variety of master's degree level programs to international students in the Colleges of Business, Engineering, Communication, Liberal Arts & Sciences and Fine & Performing Arts. These Colleges do not offer doctoral level programs. A complete list of programs can be viewed on The Graduate School home page at www.rowan.edu. Rowan University does not offer graduate degrees in computer science, marketing, physics, life sciences or chemistry.
  • Graduate programs in the College of Education are primarily geared to the certification and educational requirements of the State of New Jersey and therefore usually not appropriate to international students.

Financial Considerations for International Applicants
Rowan University does not offer government-supported financial aid or loans to students who are neither permanent residents nor citizens of the United States.

International applicants may, however, apply for a limited number of graduate assistantships if they are accepted into a Rowan University graduate program. Graduate assistantships are awarded on a competitive basis. Within most graduate programs, they provide a stipend of no more than $4000 per academic year (an academic year consists of both fall and spring semesters), and a waiver of tuition payments in exchange for the completion of work hours in departments or offices on campus.

To qualify for a Rowan graduate assistantship, applicants must be officially accepted into a graduate program and be able to come to campus to interview (before the beginning of the academic semester) with the offices and departments offering assistantships. Applicants to the Graduate Assistant Program are not guaranteed a position.

Certification of Funds
All international students must certify that they have at least $19,000 (U.S.) available per year to cover the expenses while studying in the United States.
