In the past, if you wanted to become a middle school or high school teacher you majored in a subject area like math, science, English or history, and pursued teacher certification. Changes in state licensing requirements now enable you to enroll in the Subject Matter Education program and earn two degrees simultaneously: a bachelor’s in your subject area and a bachelor’s in education. Upon graduation you will be qualified to teach your subject at any level from Kindergarten through grade 12. Rowan offers the Subject Education K-12 dual major in: Art, Biology, Chemistry, English, History, Mathematics, Music, Physical Science, Physics, Spanish and Theatre/Speech/Dramatic Arts.
