For candidates wishing to become middle or high school teachers of social studies, it is necessary to pursue two degrees at Rowan.  You will pursue a degree in history and a degree in education. This dual degree combination leads to initial teacher certification that permits candidates to teach social studies at grades K-12. Upon graduation you will be qualified to teach the social studies, including US and World history, sociology, economics, and world cultures at any level from Kindergarten through grade 12; however, as elementary schools are rarely departmentalized, most graduates teach in content specific classrooms, grades 6-12.
