When she transferred to Rowan as a junior public relations/advertising double major, Kelly Plummer experienced a lot of firsts. The Bridgeton, Cumberland County, native shares, “Last year was so exciting. It was my first year at Rowan, my first time presenting at a professional conference and my first time on an airplane.”

Plummer’s research course professor noticed her aptitude for the subject and suggested that she and her group submit their research paper for consideration to present at a conference. That was in November, two months into her academic career at Rowan. By March, Plummer and two classmates were airbound, flying to Miami as the only undergraduate participants to present research at the International PR Research Conference.

“I appreciate the opportunities that my professors have extended to me,” Plummer said. “My research and writing classes in particular have helped me prepare for my career.”

With a passion for theatre, Plummer launched her professional career halfway through her senior year when she accepted a position as a marketing specialist with Slack Inc., which handles marketing for Broadway Theatre of Pitman. She says it is tough to juggle her remaining course load with her new responsibilities, but, “I just couldn’t let this perfect opportunity pass me by,” she says. “I am very thankful. I didn’t expect to get a job this soon, and couldn’t imagine a job more perfect for me.”
