Student Life Overview

Class Experience

Students in our programs can expect to apply their classroom learning to the real world through internships or directed study. Our students apply their knowledge in our own Geospatial Research Lab, with non-profit groups and with local governments. In recent years the department has continued its collaboration with the N.J. Army National Guard's Environmental Management Bureau where interns have helped survey rare species, conducted forest assessments and helped to maintain resource management plans. The GIS internship program with the Army National Guard has recently contracted with the N.J. Department of Military and Veteran Affairs to continue the process of surveying, digitizing and creating maps for National Guard installations in New Jersey.

Social Engagement

Recently, students in the Geography Club teamed up with the Rec Center to host a hike in Wharton State Forest. The group has hosted the inaurgural Rowan Geography Travel & Adventure Series presentation, a weekly film festival and participated in the Geography Awareness Week.
