Healthcare for Tomorrow

Health & Medicine

With two medical schools, Rowan University is an important contributor to the future of healthcare in New Jersey and the nation.

Rowan co-founded Cooper Medical School of Rowan University with Cooper University Health Care, welcoming the medical school’s inaugural class in summer 2012. On July 1, 2013, Rowan became one of only two universities in the nation to offer both M.D. and D.O. degree-granting programs with the addition of the Rowan School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford, NJ (formerly the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey). The Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in Stratford, which grants the PhD and offers a number of master’s and dual-degree programs, is also now part of Rowan.

Rowan also offers courses for working and aspiring nurses through its Department of Nursing, an academic department in the College of Science and Mathematics that collaborates with the College of Graduate & Continuing Education to deliver nursing programs online and in face-to-face classes and labs.

Rowan is just one of two universities in the country to offer both M.D.- and D.O.-granting medical programs. Both provide a humanistic education in the art and science of medicine and bring leading edge medical care to our area.

We believe patient focused healthcare starts with a scientific and scholarly community in which inclusivity, innovative teaching, research, and service to our community are valued.

The state’s only School of Osteopathic Medicine, Rowan SOM is dedicated to providing excellence in medical education, research and healthcare for New Jersey and the nation. Our emphasis is on primary healthcare and community health services.

We are committed to providing humanistic education in the art and science of medicine within a scientific and scholarly community in which inclusivity, excellence in patient care, innovative teaching, research, and service to our community are valued

In 2012, the State of New Jersey awarded Rowan research institution status and partnered it with Rutgers-Camden to create a College of Health Sciences in Camden, anchored by Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, to educate health science professionals.

In this ever changing world, there is an increased need for, and reliance on, biomedical science professionals. We address this need and prepare students to become qualified professionals with expertise and experience engaging in research and development.

Through rigorous coursework and research opportunities, we prepare students to become qualified professionals and to pursue graduate level scholarship. Our graduates enjoy an extraordinarily high acceptance rate into graduate and health profession programs.

Our programs incorporate hands on experiences to enrich student understanding of such disciplines as nursing, psychology, and bioinformatics in an ever expanding field of health and medicine
