Program Spotlight

With a small group of 15 to 20 students graduating each year, clinical coordinator of the athletic training program Professor Doug Mann appreciates being able to build meaningful, long-term relationships with students as they progress through the program.

“The best teaching moments sometime happen when you’re having conversation and connection with a student—not necessarily ‘teaching’ them in the traditional sense at that time,” Mann says.

Mann recalls one particular graduate who returned to Rowan to serve as a guest speaker for current students. Now an athletic trainer himself, for Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas, the alumnus shared with the class, ‘The one thing that I most remember Dr. Mann telling me was, ‘Any job you have is never going to be perfect.’”

Mann says, “You never know what is going to resonate with people and stick with them. Ten years later, the biggest lesson that this particular graduate retained was a life lesson that I don’t even remember sharing.” Mann is grateful for the opportunity to connect with students as they grow both academically and personally.

Students who enroll in the athletic training program graduate in five years with a master’s degree in athletic training. They pay the undergraduate rate of tuition for the entirety of the program, making earning a master’s degree more affordable. Rowan’s program is structured to ensure that students graduate with a master’s degree to meet the profession’s minimum entry-level requirement established by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education.

As athletic trainers, our graduates are healthcare professionals who collaborate with physicians and provide services such as injury prevention, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation.
