Rowan University features colleges of Business, Communication & Creative Arts, Education, Engineering, Humanities & Social Sciences, Performing Arts, Science & Mathematics, Graduate & Continuing Education and a School of Biomedical Sciences. We also recently brought two new colleges into our family, Cooper Medical School of Rowan University and the Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine.

Take this into account: Rowan accounting majors land good jobs!

Whether you're interested in a career with a big firm or starting your own business, Rowan's accounting program through the Rohrer College of Business will get you on your way. Rowan offers a bachelor of science degree in accounting and an MBA with an accounting specialization covering such areas as intermediate and advanced accounting, accounting information systems, budgeting, internal auditing, tax laws, cost and managerial accounting, and preparation for the CPA exam.

Rowan accounting majors get hands-on experience while still in school with internships ranging from international firms like Deloitte and Touche, Ernst & Young and Checkpoint Systens to the State of New Jersey. Students gain tax preparation experience through the federally sponsored Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, which offers free tax preparation to people of low to moderate income.

If you love business, and the creativity that drives it,Rowan’s bachelor of arts in Advertising may be the major for you.  Offered through the Department of Public Relations and Advertising,Rowan’s BA in Advertising is grounded in communication research and professional experience. It has produced successful advertising professionals for more than 30 years. The program enables students todevelop an array of experience from copywriting to account and media planning, from integrated marketing communication to advertising campaigns. The program requires an internship for greater real-world and career development. You may participate in student agencies like Ad Dynamics andPRaction and join Rowan’s Ad Club, which is affiliated with the American Advertising Federation, to engage directly with area professionals.

Rowan's Africana Studies program promotes a deep understanding of the unique American experience through the lens of African Americans, their struggles and triumphs. The program is a significant component of Rowan's commitment to multidisciplinary education and the inclusion of the study of diverse peoples. The program offers a Bachelor’s Degree in Africana Studies and an undergraduate Concentration in Africana Studies in cooperation with roughly a dozen departments throughout the University.

Through Rowan's Africana Studies program, students develop a greater understanding of their world and build competencies to succeed professionally as well as civically at all levels: local, state, national and global.

American Studies is the study of America – its history, literature, geography, society, culture, politics, economy, philosophies and dramas. Drawing from among several disciplines, the major provides a broad liberal education and helps students develop critical thinking and writing skills as well as a sophisticated understanding of the unique, diverse American landscape.

Rowan's American Studies major provides a great base for many careers. It is an excellent coordinate major for students in the Elementary Education program as it covers many of the Core Curriculum Content Standard that aspiring educators will be expected to teach. Married with a minor in Philosophy, American Studies is also excellent preparation for law school.

Art

Make your dream of a creative life come true! Whether you prefer the challenges of mastering innovative digital media or the joys of traditional painting and printmaking, or a mix of media in between, Rowan is for you. Bring your ideas to life in spacious and well-equipped studios and state-of-the-art computer labs. You’ll work with faculty who are highly accomplished artists, designers and historians to expand your talents and prepare for exciting careers in art and design. The Rowan University Art Gallery regularly exhibits contemporary artists from around the world and our two other galleries spotlight students’ work. Your degree from Rowan opens a door to a whole world of possibilities. Our students put their skills to work at great internships and jobs in Philadelphia, New York, and all over the country. Some of them are teaching their own students now, and all of them gain a lasting appreciation for the visual arts. Acceptance into the Department of Art at Rowan requires a portfolio review.

As the name suggests, Biochemistry is the chemistry of life, a study incorporating several disciplines including chemistry, biology, physics, genetics and math. With a Rowan degree in biochemistry you can specialize in any of the related areas of chemistry, molecular biology, genetics, structural biology, pharmacology or medicine.

Rowan's proximity to biotech firms, pharmaceutical companies and biomedical labs creates vast opportunities for internships and collaborative research. The Biochemistry program prepares students for graduate study in such disciplines as chemistry and biology as well as medical school and other allied health programs including veterinary medicine, dentistry, pharmacology, podiatry and optometry.

Many science-based career paths require advanced studies and a bachelor's in Biochemistry builds a strong base for graduate work.

Bioinformatics is a set of methods that can take large sets of biological data and use computers to extract out meaningful results. Bioinformaticians study human diseases, find new, more powerful drugs, and unlock the secrets of the biology of many different organisms. Bioinformatics is becoming the heart of biological and biomedical sciences, and our program is designed to give you a deep and broad background and training in the practice and theory of computational biology and chemistry. Training in Bioinformatics prepares you well for today's and tomorrow's economy and gives you marketable skills, as well as preparing you for careers in healthcare and basic and biomedical research.

Rowan's Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences provides a broad yet rigorous background in biology and related sciences along with the flexibility to build a specialty track that suits your career goals.  Our program includes options for you to specialize in pre-medicine / pre-health, bioinformatics, cell biology, genetics, microbiology, ecology, environmental science, botany, marine biology, or zoology.

Rowan biology students enjoy small classes taught by faculty – not graduate students – and, unlike many larger universities, Rowan provides research opportunities for underclassmen.  Rowan's proximity to biotech companies, the health industry, museums, and conservation or environmental facilities creates additional opportunities for internships and collaborative research.

Many biology-based career paths require advanced studies.  A B.S. in Biological Sciences builds a strong base for additional post-graduate studies.

Biomedical engineering is at the intersection of medicine and biology, with the focus on the improvement of heath care systems. Rowan's biomedical engineering program will educate its students to analyze and design innovative solutions, with the goal of improving the quality and effectiveness of patient care. Modeled after the proven hands-on, real world, project-based curriculum of Rowan’s existing engineering programs, the BME degree program will prepare students to contribute to health care solutions in an increasingly multidisciplinary environment.

Biophysics is an interdisciplinary major focusing on applying the principles, methods and theories of physics and the fundamentals of analysis to study organic and biological systems. Biophysics aims to explore the biological systems and the physical properties of their molecules. Biophysicists employ the power of physics, chemistry and math to study biological processes, understanding how to prevent diseases, designing cures, and developing novel technologies including applications in biomaterials. The Biophysics major will prepare students to work in research institutes, medical centers, with the government, or in universities.

Want to be among the best? Study Chemical Engineering at Rowan!

U.S. News and World Report ranks Rowan's Chemical Engineering degree 3rd in the nation among colleges and universities that provide comprehensive undergraduate and master’s programs.

Like all majors in the College of Engineering, a hallmark of the program is a series of medical school-style clinics that begin freshmen year and immerse students in real-world research and applications -- from discovering how a drug is designed to curing a disease to manufacturing a novel food product to producing biofuels from renewable resources. Rowan Chemical Engineering students explore real-world projects in the lab, through team-based learning, and through multi-disciplinary projects.

Rowan's Chemistry program includes organic, inorganic, physical, analytical, and polymer chemistry. The degree features a required research project, an experience designed to prepare students for deeper research in graduate school and throughout their career.

Rowan chemistry majors use sophisticated instruments not commonly found in undergraduate labs including a gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer. At some universities, such equipment is often reserved for faculty and graduate research but Rowan chemistry majors begin using it freshmen year. 

Many Rowan chemistry majors pursue graduate study in the sciences, medicine and other allied health fields. Students interested in teaching chemistry may pursue a Subject Matter Teaching Certificate along with the major.

From the pyramids in Egypt to the Panama Canal, all of the world's man-made wonders were designed by Civil and Environmental Engineers.

By definition, civil engineers are problem-solvers: they design and build roads, bridges, and other infrastructure. Environmental engineers pioneer technologies for hazardous waste site cleanup, water treatment plants, pollution control, and much more.

As a Rowan Civil and Environmental Engineering student, you'll take part in the program's popular, hands-on clinic program starting freshmen year and learn to use science to improve the world around you!

Career paths for Rowan Civil and Environmental Engineering majors include employment with municipalities, state and federal agencies as well as private contractors, consulting firms or large design firms.

In simplest terms, communication enables people to form and share ideas, build relationships, and forge experience with others. The Communication Studies program at Rowan explores this central and complex part of the human condition. As a communication studies student you will engage in demanding, rewarding examinations of two central elements of communication: relationships and messages. And, you'll develop key skills employers seek most often – the ability to think, speak, and write clearly. The Communication Studies major offers flexibility in the topics of study, an approach well suited to students with wide-ranging interests and abilities. Students take a series of core courses to build a foundation in theory, research, and application and then choose a specialization: Rhetoric and Cultural Criticism or Interpersonal/Organizational Communication. Students are encouraged to do an internship outside the university, but may also conduct a research practicum, working one-on-one with a favorite professor.

Rowan's Bachelor of Science in Computer Science provides a broad foundation for students interested in a variety of computer-based careers, from the development of software to information technology. The Computer Science major at Rowan will help you master computer and network principles and technologies and develop the versatility you'll need to adapt in this fast evolving field. As a Computer Science major you can specialize in a specific area of study such as software engineering, networking and operating systems, information technology, programming languages and artificial intelligence. The program will also prepare you for graduate study in Computer Science and related fields.

Electrical and Computer Engineering involves the creation of the new and the cool – everything from wireless communications and smart phone technology to advances in sustainable energy.

Like all students in Rowan's celebrated College of Engineering, ECE students study all of the engineering disciplines and take part in our medical school-inspired clinic programs.

As an ECE major, you'll conduct industry-funded research as an undergraduate and learn from the best as you study such topics as computational intelligence, photovoltaic energy and virtual reality.

If your calling is to make an impact on children, Rowan's bachelor of arts in elementary education is for you! A dual major program, elementary education qualifies students to teach all subject areas from kindergarten through grade 5. Rowan elementary education majors combine education studies with one of 11 subject areas: American Studies, Chemistry, English, Geography, History, Liberal Studies: Humanities/Social Science, Liberal Studies: Literacy Studies, Mathematics, Math/Science, Spanish, or Writing Arts. You will graduate with a bachelor's in education and a bachelor's in your dual major. You can also add a middle school endorsement so you may teach your subject area on the middle school level.

The room, dedicated in 2011, features 27 powerful computers for in depth financial analysis, a large LCD touch screen monitor and multi-hued electronic tickers front and rear. Rowan students pursing a Bachelor of Science in G.I.S. study the white-hot field of spatial analysis, a field that is documenting the planet with satellite-guided accuracy. Successful health care professionals promote good health through proper nutrition, exercise, and healthy lifestyle choices. If your passion is keeping people fit and healthy through community or health care agencies, hospitals, commercial wellness centers or corporate health and fitness outlets, HPFM is the major for you. Rowan’s program in HPFM received the Distinguished Undergraduate Program Award from the National Wellness Institute in 2010 and serves as a model for other institutions.

Rowan's Department of Physics & Astronomy offers budding scientists a variety of educational options including the opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts in physics, a minor in physics, and a minor in astronomy. Physics students may perform research with faculty in a variety of areas, including condensed matter physics, theoretical physics, biological physics, and astronomy.  Special physics facilities include a magnetics lab, a physical properties lab, a thin film fabrication lab, a microscopy lab, an ultrafast spectroscopy lab, a laser cooling lab, a computational physics lab, and an astrophysics & planetary science research lab.  The B.S. in Physics is good preparation for graduate studies in physics, astronomy, or a host of engineering programs as well as to move directly into a technical career.  The B.A. is good preparation for technically oriented careers, post-bac studies, or a career in high school education.

Rowan has one of the oldest and most celebrated public relations programs in the country. The program holds the Certified Educator in Public Relations credential from the Public Relations Society of America, one of only 30 programs worldwide to do so. Classroom instruction simulates real-world PR challenges as you work with real clients, participate in problem-solving competitions, and make panel presentations. The chapter, which competes against chapters from much larger colleges and universities, has been named outstanding chapter in the nation eight times, more than any other chapter, and won more than 200 national awards.

All of these industry folks are graduates of Rowan's Radio/TV/Film program. They are part of our alumni network of media professionals who continue to excel with their Rowan degrees. We have been preparing students for media-based careers since 1976.  Our Radio Television and Film students learn the fundamentals of media production and the history and business of media. Hundreds of our graduates work at TV and radio stations throughout the Philadelphia and New York markets as well as across the US.  In addition to the traditional areas of radio, television, and film production, we offer Concentrations in New Media and  Audio Recording. A Bachelor of Arts in Spanish through the Department of Foreign Languages & Literatures prepares students for a vast range of careers and experiences. If you want to perform, direct, design, teach or manage things behind the scenes, Rowan’s Bachelor of Arts in Theatre at Rowan is geared toward the professional theatre and dance world, offering three distinct tracks: Acting/Directing, Design/Tech, or Dance. You'll have plenty of chances to practice your craft with at least ten events each year, ranging from diverse main stage productions to student-directed and choreographed work to independent endeavors. Rowan's proximity to Philadelphia and New York also gives you opportunities for internships and chances to see and be involved with the professional theatre scene.

Joining the fast-growing biomedical workforce requires diverse training in mathematics, statistics, the life sciences and the physical sciences. The Bachelor of Science in Translational Biomedical Sciences effectively integrates these disciplines to facilitate acquisition of a broad knowledge base and skill set. This major is designed to provide an excellent preparation of undergraduate students who pursue any of the following: medical professional degree (MD, DO, PA, etc.), advanced biomedical research degree, immediate employment upon completion of the degree.

Working in a variety of formats, Writing Arts majors apply creativity and critical awareness to all sorts of situations. They master expository writing and cultivate their voice as writers and communicators.  They become proficient editors, evaluating and improving a variety of documents. And they develop writing technique for such fields as law, business and technology. Hands-on opportunities include writing and editing The Whit, Rowan's award-winning student newspaper, the Avant literary quarterly, and Venue, our student humor magazine. Students may also pursue radio writing at WGLS, the award-winning Rowan radio station, and public relations and advertising experience in Rowan's hugely successful chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America and Advertising Club. And, if screenwriting is their thing, students may join Cinema Workshop. Alternatively, Writing Arts majors may earn both a B.A. and M.A. in Writing in just five years! Ask your advisor for details.
