A New Day for New Jersey

July 1, 2013, impacts Rowan University, the region and the entire State of New Jersey for the foreseeable future.

The New Jersey Medical and Health Sciences Education Restructuring Act, effective July 1, brings with it many changes to higher education, health care and the economy in the State.

Transforms Rowan University

The Restructuring Act, approved by the State legislature and signed into law by Gov. Chris Christie on Aug. 22, 2012, is transforming Rowan University by:

  • Awarding Rowan state comprehensive research status
  • Integrating the School of Osteopathic Medicine and Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in Stratford, N.J., with Rowan University
  • Partnering Rowan and Rutgers-Camden to create a College of Health Sciences in the City of Camden, N.J.

Builds the economy more

The Restructuring Act also will help:

  • Broaden education in New Jersey, offering high-demand programs that will keep even more of the Garden State‚Äôs best academic talents right here at home
  • Contribute to new programs in health care and build the workforce in numerous medical disciplines
  • Directly and indirectly spur the economy, creating short- and long-term jobs and fostering the development of new businesses
