Biographical Information.

James Poinsett is in his third year of doctoral study in mathematics education at the University of Pennsylvania. He received master’s degrees in mathematics education and mathematics at Rutgers University in 2003 and 2005, respectively.

Prior to coming to teach in the math department of Rowan University, he taught as an adjunct in the math department at Burlington County College and was a MetroMath fellow at Penn looking to understand the disconnect between mathematical practices inside and outside of school.
His dissertation research will likely explore adult development of basic algebraic knowledge.
His book review for A Fresh Start for Collegiate Mathematics: Rethinking the Courses below Calculus was published by the MAA in 2006. James’ Fall course load consists of two sections of Basic Algebra and one section of Contemporary Math.
