History of Nu Gamma Lambda
Nu Gamma Lambda Chapter, key 570 was founded in the Spring of 1978 by three Rowan University faculty members and several Alpha men living in the Southern New Jersey area. The men had been brought together in the spring of 1977 for the purpose of chartering a chapter at the college. One the college chapter was chartered in the fall of 1977, the alumni Brothers realized that aligned support must also occur. Under the direction of Brother John Williams of Sicklerville and with the aid of Brothers Elwood Nichols of Franklinville, Oscar Moore of Glassboro, John Wooten of Williamstown, Craig Welburn, of Turnersville, Charles Lindsey of Vineland and with the assistance of George Phillips and Kenneth Baylock of the Kappa Iota Lambda Chapter of Willingboro, Nu Gamma Lambda was chartered in the Spring of 1979. Lending guidance and support to the project was New Jersey District Director, Brother Elbert C. Wisner.
The chapter met at the homes of several brothers during its initial years, often losing brothers to career transfers and gaining brothers through college chapter graduation. Nu Gamma Lambda initiated its first membership line (Genesis) in the Spring of 1980 with two initiates: Brothers Tyrone Corsey and Wayne Triplett, Sr. During that same summer, the chapter went inactive.
