You are no doubt preparing for the challenges and opportunities that come with college. Things have changed over the last few decades: campuses are larger than ever, more process driven, and consequently, more Impersonal.

Sure, fraternities are fun. But what is more important is how organizations like Phi Kappa Psi can provide the proven support network a young man needs to succeed and excel in this competitive environment

A fraternity can personalize the college experience by offering a scholastic support system, hands-on experience in managing budgets and leading committees, and interacting with faculty and administrators. These life lessons and important experiences are not taught in a dorm or in the classroom.

For almost 150 years, Phi Kappa Psi has been adding value to undergraduate life by acting as the training ground for US. Presidents, business leaders, and men who have had a profound effect on our times.

"43 of the nation’s 50 largest
corporations are led by Greeks."

Phi Psi alumni directly credit Phi Kappa Psi with shaping the interpersonal skills that have enhanced relationships with family; friends, and business associates. In fact, most will cite specific instances where their fraternity bothers or a Phi Kappa Psi connection has assisted them later in their professional career.

With membership, you will be expected to focus on academic success, be involved in campus and community activities, and be committed to developing enduring friendships.

Founded in 1852, Phi Kappa Psi has grown to a brotherhood of over 87,000 initiates, with 57,000 living alumni, forming a network of members that spans the generations and the nation.

Known throughout the country as a fraternity of gentlemen. Phi Kappa Psi invites college men of different origins, backgrounds, and beliefs to strive for intellectual, moral, and spiritual excellence.

Each of the 85 local chapters of Phi Kappa Psi at colleges and universities across the country is part of a much larger picture.  The national fraternity provides educational leadership retreats and seminars for chapter officers as well as individual members. The Woodrow Wilson Leadership School is offered during the summer in alternate years, and attracts over 300 undergraduate members.

The national fraternity also conducts seminars annually for local chapter presidents and for the officers responsible for pledge education programs.  The President’s Leadership Academy helps new officers with personal skills development and chapter management issues. The Fraternity Educator’s Leadership Academy helps new officers with personal development as well
as providing continuity through a national pledge education program.

“A remarkable two-thirds of
Presidential Cabinet Members since
1900 have been Greek.”

Students often find managing their time difficult when moving from the highly structured high school environment to the freedoms of college. Fraternities assist in that transition by offering scholarship activities, which might include study partners, mandatory study hours, and time management workshops.

You can access the network of fraternity members who already know how to use campus resources like the library study skills centers, computer labs, and academic advisors. The Endowment Fund of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity has an ongoing program under which local chapters can apply for grants to install computer network wiring, Internet access, and up-to-date computer equipment in the chapter house.

Some of our chapters are ranked number one academically on campus, while some are just average.  Although Phi Kappa Psi strongly encourages the academic achievement of its members, ultimately responsibility lies with each member, and the extent to which the many resources made available to him are utilized.

HANDS ON LEADERSHIP

Each local chapter of Phi Kappa Psi is governed and managed by undergraduate members elected by their peers, with the advice and assistance of alumni members who serve as chapter advisors. Local customs vary from campus to campus. In some chapters, more of the day-to-day operations are managed by the undergraduates (meal service, maintenance and repairs, mortgage or rent payments, etc.), while mother chapters the alumni advisors play a greater role. The leadership opportunities within the local chapter add substantial value to a young man’s education, beyond that which is available in a classroom.

In addition, Phi Kappa Psi’s national office offers support, advice, and direction through
paid professional staff traveling consultants, and regional volunteers. The national office also purchases liability insurance for local chapters, and property and casualty insurance if they o~ the chapter house.  Professional staff from the college or university also assists and monitor the activities of fraternities on their campuses.
