Fall 2010 Open Forum Results to Change in Double-Fining System
Last year, the students of Rowan University came together regarding their concern over Rowan-Glassboro relations. From that open forum came a consistent response referring to the unfairness of Rowan and Glassboro's double-fining system. To be more specific, if a student was in trouble through Glassboro and was sanctioned to pay a fine, they'd also have to pay a fine through Rowan.
SGA worked hard following the open forum to make a change in this system. Because of the student voice, this system has been modified. The change (as of Fall 2011) in the RU Student Handbook, on page 48 under Section G: Sanctions, reads...
"Factors to be considered in deciding sanctions will include present demeanor and past disciplinary record of the student, penalties resulting from a corresponding court case, the nature of the violation, and severity of any damage, injury, or harm resulting from it as perceived by the victim and/or appropriate university officials."
In other words, if a student has been sanctioned off campus, the university will take in to consideration their incurred fine, and will not fine the student through the university.
On behalf of the SGA, we'd like to thank the students of Rowan University for using their voice and making a change.
