Biography

Allan Y. Jiao is a Professor of Criminal Justice at the Department of Law and Justice Studies at Rowan University in New Jersey, U.S.A.  He holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration (1991) from Lewis & Clark College and a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice (1996) from Rutgers University.  He has many years of college teaching experience at both undergraduate and graduate level.  The courses he has taught span various disciplines including English, Economics, Sociology, Public Administration, and Criminal Justice.  He has engaged in scholarly research in Criminal Justice with a specialization in policing in the U.S., China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Brazil, and worked with many scholars and practitioners in the field. Jiao has published extensively in policing and criminal justice including refereed journal articles, book chapters, and books.  Some of his recent articles have appeared in Policing: An International Journal of Police Strategies and Management, Journal of Criminal Justice, Police Quarterly, Public Administration and Policy: A Hong Kong & Asia-Pacific Journal, International Criminal Justice Review, and Policing and Society: An International Journal of Research and Policy.  He has published three books: Police Auditing: Theories and Practices (Charles C Thomas Publisher, 1999), Public Order: A Global Perspective (Pearson Prentice Hall, 2005, with Dilip K. Das), and The Police in Hong Kong: A Contemporary View (The University Press of America, 2007).  Jiao’s current research interest focuses on policing, violence, and comparative criminal justice issues.  He earned a Fulbright Senior Scholar Award in Hong Kong and conducted police studies there during the 2001-02 academic year.  Jiao enjoys communicating with scholars, practitioners, and students.
