The department is committed to creating a student-centered learning environment that promotes close student-faculty relationships and enhances intellectual development.

Rowan Universityís degree program in Computer Science has been accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, Inc., the recognized accreditor of college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology. ABET accreditation demonstrates a programís commitment to providing its students with a quality education. Accredited by the Computing Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org

The department also seeks to meet the educational needs of the community at large through general education courses, a minor in Computer Science, and other programs. The Computer Science faculty is committed to contributing to the expansion of knowledge in the Computer Science discipline through teaching, research, and service.

The Department

The department consists of 12 full time faculty and 6 instructors. We offer a four-year Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, a minor in Computer Science, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computing and Informatics. Computer science students master current technology and develop the versatility needed to adapt in this fast evolving field. Recent B.S. graduates have found exciting careers in industry, government and education. The B.S. program also prepares students for graduate study in Computer Science and related fields. Specializations are available in the areas of software engineering, networking and operating systems, information technology, programming languages and compilers, artificial intelligence, Cyber Security, Graphics and Visulization, and Mobile application development. Many students complete an internship in the industry.

The Computer Science department hosts the Rowan chapter of Upsilon Pi Epsilon, 2008 UPE Induction Ceremony, the international honor society for the computing and information disciplines, as well as the Rowan student chapter of the ACM , the international computing society. Further, many computer science students take an active role in faculty research projects. Results of the research are often presented at Rowan's Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) student research symposium. The Computer Science department organizes the annual Rowan University Programming Contest for area high school students.
