CURRENT PROJECTS |
Kuntaur Road, The Gambia |
Our chapter is currently working with several rural villages in The Gambia. A road that connects the villages to the nearby city of Kuntaur has been repaired. The project team is now working to make it easier for the villages to extract water from their community wells. |
| A team of students first traveled to The Gambia in January 2009 on an assessment trip and a plan to raise the road and provide drainage has been developed. Students returned to The Gambia in January of 2010 and met with contractors who will begin construction later in the year, educated the community about maintaining the road, and gathered data that will help us continue to work with the eight villages to improve their quality of life. |
La Ceiba, El Salvador |
Our chapter is also working on a clean drinking water project in El Salvador. The community members of La Ceiba currently drink contaminated water from hand dug wells and a local river. The poor water quality has caused a number of illnesses and deaths within the community. |
| Our chapter began implementing biosand filters in La Ceiba in January 2011 to provide the community with clean drinking water. We are excited to begin monitoring our pilot implementation and installing more filters. |
