Rowan College of Engineering
Welcome to the website of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Rowan University. The discipline of Civil and Environmental Engineering, which is the oldest engineering profession, will take center stage in the 21 st century as infrastructure construction and maintenance (Infrastructure Report Card) and energy and the environment (Engineering Challenges) become our nation’s priority. Our CEE Department is actively engaged in providing enriching experiences via our innovative curriculum to prepare our students to tackle these global challenges.
In addition to the ABET accredited B.S. degree in Civil Engineering, we have a Ph.D. in Engineering, Masters in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Engineering Management and a new Certificate of Graduate Studies in Sustainability, co-sponsored with Chemical Engineering. A new initiative within the department, funded through the National Science Foundation - Revolutionizing engineering and computer science Departments (RED) program, is titled “Rethinking Engineering Diversity, Transforming Engineering Diversity (REDTED). This puts us among an elite group of engineering programs nationwide and the only CEE program to receive this prestigious funding. It is a testament to the innovative curriculum and dedicated faculty within the department that we were able to secure this funding to examine our curriculum and serve as a national model of inclusivity by Transforming Engineering Diversity.
In addition, our program has seen a strong growth in research areas such as transportation infrastructure design, resilient infrastructure design, sustainable development, community outreach and global engagement. We have considerable research funding from the state of New Jersey, federal government, neighboring state agencies and private companies. On September 14, 2016 we will be inaugurating world class facilities for transportation research, the Center for Research and Education in Advanced Transportation Engineering Systems (CREATEs), which houses a Heavy Vehicle Simulator and has the capabilities to conduct accelerated pavement testing.
Our graduates are highly successful in research and the workplace as evidenced by employer feedback, graduate school placement and job placement.
