A Message from Dr. Jay A. Harper, Dean

Welcome to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the soul of Rowan University. I hope you find the links to the program descriptions and departments of interest. As Rowan University seeks to become the outstanding public comprehensive university in the region, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences will remain at its core.

We train students to think logically and to reason; we provide a sense of what is ethical and an appreciation of the esthetic; we evaluate the new through the scientific method while emphasizing history’s lessons; and we equip students to manage information and to work cooperatively.

The result: our graduates become leaders in a myriad of disciplines.

At the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, we aim to develop the hearts, the minds, the souls of Rowan University students. To this end I believe we are successful and I am proud to serve as its Dean.

With more than 3,000 undergraduate majors, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is by far the largest of the six colleges at Rowan University.

And with good reason.

Studies through the C.L.A.S. provide students with a foundation of knowledge and the tools to seek and acquire more. Our flexible curricula prepare students not merely for a job but for whatever life has in store -- graduate school, law school, medical school, an MBA program or a really great career right out of the gate.

Simply put, a Rowan University liberal arts education gives students options.

At the C.L.A.S., students can choose from more than 20 undergraduate majors in 15 departments, from biology and chemistry to English, history, sociology, mathematics, physics and astronomy.

And, like the collective body of knowledge our students come to embrace, our college is still growing. For 2006-2007 we offer an all-new Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies and have begun accepting applicants for a new Master of Arts in Criminal Justice.

Our coursework teaches students to think clearly and prepares them for jobs that may not yet exist. Flexibility is the key to the future. If you are flexible and can adapt, you will be ready for anything.
