Career Opportunities
If you are
interested in a people-oriented career, you may wish to consider
a profession in foreign languages. The demand for foreign language
teachers as well as for people in international careers with a knowledge
of foreign languages and cultures has increased substantially over
the last decade. The Spanish Major at Rowan University provides
students with many career options. Students may choose to have a
Coordinate Major in Spanish in order to teach at the elementary
school level. Those wishing to teach at the secondary school level
and major in Spanish have the option of completing a secondary certification
program. Students who complete any of the language programs offered
by the Department may also choose to work in international business,
trade and finance, human and social services, law enforcement or
travel and tourism.
New Jersey and the greater
Delaware Valley offer ample employment opportunities for foreign
language graduates. There is a large number of internationally-oriented
companies located in the area including subsidiaries of foreign
companies. Financial institutions, social and legal agencies, hospitals,
hotels, casinos and airlines are also looking for personnel with
foreign language training. Graduates can likewise gain employment
as translators or interpreters with state and federal agencies such
as the courts, FBI, CIA, State Department, Immigration and Naturalization
and Customs Agencies.
