Mission & Purpose of Program

The leadership concentration is an undergraduate, interdisciplinary, credit-bearing program designed to address the needs of students who wish to gain knowledge and experience in developing and practicing leadership skills. Leadership is explored inside and outside the classroom. Students will learn by doing, and have the opportunity to practice leadership in an organizational setting, and make meaningful contributions to the practice of leading change. The program focuses on the nature of leadership in a variety of settings and helps students prepare for leadership responsibility on campus, in the community, and in their professions. In a supportive academic environment, the leadership studies concentration can assist students in developing a number of capabilities, including but not limited to, collaboration skills, teamwork, flexibility, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Overall, the leadership studies concentration will help students improve their own leadership capabilities and make them more marketable for their future endeavors.
